Calling all legal professionals and tech innovators
Join us at the Swiss Legal Tech Hackathon & Conference 2018
The upcoming Swiss Legal Tech 2018 aims to rethink, reshape and refresh the legal industry. It’s the second Swiss edition of a series of European legal tech events that are unique in the way they bring together legal practitioners, software developers and digital innovators. The Legal Tech Hackathon is our unique signature.
The Legal Tech Hackathon will kick off on September 17th. For two intense days, lawyers and hackers will join forces to create the next generation of legal tech products. Legal professionals, who want to mix hacking and learning, can on September 18th book additional workshops centered around key issues like contract automation, smart contracts and blockchain basics.
On September 19th, the Swiss Legal Tech 2018 will be rounded off with a full-day conference, where all stakeholders are invited to present thought-provoking ideas and challenge common wisdoms in the industry. The Swiss Legal Tech draws in international talent and industry pioneers from all over the globe, including the U.S. Africa and Asia. Many European countries are also represented.
Will you take part in the growing legal tech community?
By participating all three days, or at the conference or workshops alone: you will find like-minded peers eager to explore new ideas with you. At the hackathon and workshops, we will deal with challenging topics in the most reflective and creative ways. The hackathon is divided into the three building blocks: Idea Hacking, Prototype Hacking and Idea Competition. Our workshops are centered around hands-on practical understanding of emerging trends and technologies. And lastly, the conference unites all stakeholders to find a consensus on where the industry as a whole is headed and where new challenges and opportunities are awaiting us.
Day 1: Let’s REthink Law
Collaboration and knowledge sharing are key when rethinking the status quo. On the first day of the hackathon, we bring together interdisciplinary teams of legal practitioners, software developers and digital innovators in order to build bridges between law, tech and business. It’s an international atmosphere with event participants from India, Africa, Australia, U.S.A., South America and most of Europe. All teams will be working with collective brainstorming, idea structuring and team building. The goal is to identify problems and search for solutions. We call it Idea Hacking — and we believe that it’s the recipe for creating innovative legal tech output.
Day 2: Let’s Reshape
The second day of the hackathon is dedicated to what we call Prototype Hacking_._ It’s not the technology in itself that will reshape the legal industry — it’s your involvement. All participants in the hackathon will be actively involved in coming up with new ideas and problem solutions.
In separate workshops that deal with the integration of legal tech into daily work or using AI in client work, we enable legal professionals to become legal tech entrepreneurs themselves and enhance their firm’s productivity and ability to service its clients.
During the hackathon, the teams will be working on developing their ideas further into functioning prototypes. These prototypes could win your team some attractive prizes. At the Idea Competition, three winning ideas will be decided upon by an expert jury on the basis of their levels of creativity, practicality, social impact, etc.
Day 3: Let’s come together
The subsequent conference presents renowned speakers who will provide their thoughts on the digital future of the legal industry. In addition, the three winning teams of the hackathon will present their ideas to the conference audience.

How do I participate, you ask?
You purchase your ticket(s) to participate in the conference on September 19th and to enhance your skills in our hands-on workshops on September 18th (available as a separate ticket or together with the conference).
In addition to that, you can apply to join the interdisciplinary teams for the hackathon days from Sep. 17th– 18th. Don’t worry. We strive for a mix of talents. You do not need prior experience in hackathons or software development to be considered for participation. But you should bring a host of ideas and motivation to the table to be competitive for one of the spots at the hackathon. Overall, we expect more than 100 legal hackers to come together on September 17th and 18th 2018.
The event will be held at the Swiss National Museum. We look forward to having you onboard as a fellow legal tech community member.
